Mª Dolores González-Ripoll Navarro

Mª Dolores González-Ripoll Navarro was born in Madrid. She studied History and Geography at University Complutense in Madrid and she was graduated in 1985. She was awarded several grants by various Spanish institutions between 1988 and 1995 (Fundación BBVA, Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia and Comunidad de Madrid), and scholarships at the Universidad de La Habana (Cuba), Universidad Michoacana San Nicolás de Hidalgo (Mexico), Maison des Pays Ibèriques (CNRS, Bordeaux, France), Florida International University (Miami), Université Paris VIII, etc.

In 1993 she obtained her PhD in History of America and since 2004 she was a research scientist as part of the Ramón y Cajal Programme at the Institute of History of the CSIC. At present, she is a ternured scientist at the Institute of History of Spanish High Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) in Madrid (since 2008).

She has participated in more than forty national and international Congresses and has offered numerous conferences in different academic centers (Universities, NGOs, cultural foundations, headquarters of the Cervantes Institute, etc.).

The research is framed in the social and cultural history of America, with special dedication to the Caribbean area in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries; the works focus on illustrated scientific expeditions, nineteenth-century Antillean thought and elites, social networks, family in the Hispanic Antilles and French, English and Spanish Antilles relationships.

She has been curator and advisor of exhibitions on Enlightened sailors and Scientific expeditions (San Sebastian 2001 and 2005) (Bogota, 2008, Madrid and Valencia 2009). The teaching experience has been carried out in the CSIC through collaboration with other universities and cultural institutions such as University of Buffalo, Casa de Velazquez, University of Alcala de Henares, University of La Laguna, etc. and as a guest professor in specialization courses at the University of San Nicolas de Hidalgo (Morelia, Mexico).

She has been a principal researcher in the “Cabotage Cultures project: social configuration and reciprocal visions in the French, British and Spanish Antilles, XVII-XIX centuries” (2013-2015) made up of specialists from Universities of France, Great Britain, French overseas departments, Antilles British and the United States. She has directed others such as “The French invasion of Spain (1808-1814): texts and visions from the Caribbean" and she has participated in several national and international research projects, all financed by public institutions, most of them on Caribbean history.

She is a member of the Research Group of Comparative Studies of the Caribbean within the framework of AHILA and the Network of Studies on the Caribbean (www.reccma). He has collaborated in the organization of several national and international congresses. She has been coordinator of the group on the Hispanic Caribbean (1770-1870) for the Latin American project “Iberconcepts” led by Javier Fernández Sebastián (University of the Basque Country) and coordinator -along with Gabriel Entin- of the voice "Libertad" (1770-1870) ) for the entire Ibero-American area.

She belongs to different scientific committees of collections of American history and science history, member of associations of researchers and specialists in Latin America, of various writing and advisory committees of Spanish and foreign journals such as Revista de Indias, Revista Electrónica Ariadna, etc. She is also an evaluator of research projects and publishers of Spanish and foreign academic and research centers.
