Simon MacLean (Ph.D., London) is currently pursuing research interests in Early medieval Europe (8th to 11th centuries); in particular the political, social, and cultural history of the Carolingian Empire and its successor kingdoms; the Vikings; kingship and queenship. His seminar will address the historical context for the battle flag of Gerberga.
