Tenure Scientist at the School of Hispanic-American Studies/Institute of History, CSIC, Seville, Spain. Among its lines of specialization, the study of literature and sociology of contemporary Latin American culture stands out, with special attention to the Cuban Revolution. This interest connects with a line of research on transatlantic literary relations during the Cold War. In connection with this topic, he directs the project "Latin American writers in the European socialist countries during the Cold War" (PID2020-113994GB-I00, R&D&I Projects. State Programs for the Generation of Knowledge and Scientific and Technological Strengthening of the System of R&D&i and R&D&i Oriented to the Challenges of Society. Call 2020, 2021-2024).
He develops a second line of work on the configuration of contemporary Andalusian cultural identity, especially in its relationship with America. In this sense, he has been the main researcher of the project “Presence of flamenco in Argentina and Mexico (1936-1959): commercial spaces and Spanish associations” (PY20_0100 4, Andalusia Regional Government, 2021-2023).
Member of the Management Committee of the Erasmus+ project “Literature in praxis: Professional challenges of reading, translating and editing in digital age” (KA220-HED - Cooperation partnerships in higher education, 2022-2024). He has been co-director of the scientific journal Enclaves. Journal of Literature, Music and Performing Arts (University of Seville). He is co-coordinator of the CLACSO Special Group “Latin America and the Balkans: cultural and social ties”.
